GANGADHARPUR MAHAVIDYAMANDIR

DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY

Philosophy is the study of knowledge and ‘thinking about thinking’. It teaches critical thinking and logical analysis which helps us to understand the world. The students who are studying philosophy as a subject can learn how to live with a critical eye. The roots of all the trends of modern thought as well as the Post Modern can be   traced in Philosophy. Tremendous advancement in Modern Science and Technology has not in any way made Plato-Aristotle out dated and the Vedas and the Upanishads obsolete.

Department of Philosophy of Gangadharpur Mahavidyamandir started its journey in the year 1981 with General course and later in 2009 Honours course had started.  In the year 2018 CBCS curriculum was introduced. In the year 2022 CCF (as per NEP 2020) was introduced. Professor Chandan Kumar Chowdhury (Retired), Professor Krishna Roy Chowdhury (Retired), Professor Molly Ghosh (transferred), Mousumi Mondal (SACT) had enriched our department with their service.  Professor Sabyasachi Mondal, Professor Priyanka Hazra, Smt. Sipra Chakraborty (SACT) are presently serving in the department. The Department of Philosophy from its inception has been encouraging students to approach education as a lifelong process and as an end in itself. We emphasize the necessity of all students to learn critical thinking skills, to write well and to read well. The department of philosophy is committed to strengthening its commitment to students to success and broadening its recognition for excellence in teaching and community service.
